Frank Christiana has been involved in the food business since he was a young boy. At the age of 10 he was driving company trucks and delivering merchandise for his father, Nick Christiana Sr., who started the business in 1934 as an egg packer and wholesale poultry dealer. In 1963, Frank purchased the company from his father and renamed it F. Christiana & Company. At that time, the business was located on Slidell Street in Algiers. He started with approximately 10 employees and sold only one item, eggs.
 
In 1965, the company relocated to Ester Street in Harvey; still hand packing and selling only eggs. Within two years of the move, the egg packing room caught on fire which forced the company to buy the eggs already packed. That is when the company began to see a profit. The fire turned out to be “a blessing in disguise”.
 
Through the years, the company diversified its product line to poultry, pork, beef, cheese, and butter. In order to house all these products and provide the service and quality that the company built its reputation on, a decision had to be made; either the business would have to be cut down or let it expand vastly.
 
In 1989 F. Christiana broke ground and moved into a 50,000 square foot, state of the art distribution warehouse located in Marrero, Louisiana. This new warehouse allowed the company to triple its offerings to their customers. The company now employees over 125 people, operates 36 delivery trucks, and the product line has expanded to over 2,000 different items including canned and dry goods, condiments, cheese, paper and cleaning products, along with long list of fresh and frozen meat items. Our product list will continue to grow to meet the needs of the customers in our market area. F. Christiana now services customers within a 200 mile radius of New Orleans. As far west as Lafayette area, north to the Alexandria area, and east through Mississippi, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida along the I-10 corridor.
 
For over 75 years, the Christiana name has stood for “Quality & Service”. Frank has been running his company for almost 50 years, with his wife Cindy. Today, three of their children Angela, Sherri, and Nickey have over 50 years combined experience in the food business. The Christiana Family is hands on and very active in the daily operations of the business. We always remember that the customers are our most important asset of the company.
